Dr. Emick does not treat children!
Dr. Emick is not providing neuropsychological assessments during the pandemic due to the extended one-on-one contact these assessments require. She offers telehealth appointments for psychotherapy on a case by case basis as appropriate.

Neuropsychological & Psychological Evaluations
Insurance companies will not pay for evaluations to determine the presence of a learning disorder or ADD/ADHD. We know, you called your insurance carrier and asked for a provider that can do this type of testing and they gave you Dr. Emick’s name and number. They weren’t wrong; Dr. Emick can conduct this type of testing. What they didn’t tell you is that they will not pay for it as it isn’t considered medically necessary. Please contact your child’s school to arrange for him/her to be tested. Alternately, several of the local universities offer this type of testing at affordable rates.
Neuropsychological and psychological assessments are considered specialty procedures.
- Insurance companies require documentation of medical necessity prior to approving and/or paying for these procedures.
- If your physician has not directly referred you to Dr. Emick and you feel that you are a candidate for neuropsychological or psychological evaluation, please schedule an appointment with your physician. If, after examining you, your physician believes that neuropsychological or psychological evaluation is appropriate, he or she can send a referral directly to Dr. Emick. Hint: a referral that simply says the patient wants testing does not provide documentation of medical necessity!
Sounds like a lot of work? Perhaps, but it certainly beats paying several thousand dollars out of pocket because your insurance company chose not to pay based on lack of medical necessity.
